Angela Matthies has over 25 years of counselling experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through life’s most challenging seasons. Her work is grounded in a belief that healing happens when people feel safe enough to talk honestly about what they’re carrying whether that’s anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, relationship strain, grief, trauma, or the weight of a major life transition.
Angela’s approach is trauma-informed, relational, and systems-based. She pays close attention to the patterns that keep people stuck (internally and in their relationships), and helps clients build practical strategies that can be integrated into daily life with clarity and compassion. When it’s helpful, Angela incorporates gentle expressive-arts methods such as imagery, journaling, or creative reflection to support regulation and insight (no art skills required). Her goal is always to help clients feel more steady, more resourced, and empowered.
Angela works with clients experiencing stress-related symptoms, anxiety and panic, cumulative trauma, attachment injuries, high-conflict or high-stress relationship dynamics, and identity shifts that can accompany midlife transitions, separation/divorce, parenting stress, or caregiving roles. Her style is warm, direct, and collaborative, balancing depth with daily tools.
Angela’s counselling can be a stand-alone support, or an integrated complement to other services within an allied health team such as physiotherapy, massage therapy, or other wellness care. When she’s not in session, you’ll often find her and her Pomeranian, Faelen outdoors hiking, kayaking, gardening and taking photos to maintain her connection with peace and gratitude with the natural world.
